Available historical data relating to snow avalanche accidents in Norway have been examined, ranging from the 17th century to present. A near continuous record of avalanche deaths from 1855 is documented. From 1946, the distribution according to activity categories for the fatalities is shown. For the last 25 years the distribution of accidents by activity category and county is presented. Accidents during the last 14 winters have been compiled, including reported nonfatal avalanche involvements.en_US
